Using visual expressive language in groups
An online programme
I am often asked about using art in group coaching and I am delighted to now offer this programme to answer the most frequent questions I get asked.
The programme is very experiential and reflective, exploring art in group coaching and holding a safe, supportive and creative space for group members.
In particular, it answers the questions:
- How do you use art in group coaching?
- Can you use the ART in Coaching approach with groups?
- What art-based exercises can you use in group coaching?
- How do you run an art-based group coaching session?
- How do you enable each person to connect to their image?
- Art-based coaching works deeply, how do you hold that safely in a group space?
About the programme
This programme is aimed at coaches who are already using art in their coaching and want to explore using visual expressive language in group coaching.
You will already have some understanding of coaching with groups.
Whilst the programme touches on key aspects of group coaching it only does so in the context of using art in a group coaching programme and/or session. There are many courses and books on Group Coaching and this programme is to add something new to your practice.
The programme explores best practice using a person-centred approach and the ART in Coaching framework and principles as outlined in my book Coaching Beyond Words – Using Art to Deepen and Enrich Our Conversations. If you haven’t attended an ART in Coaching programme previously, it will be important to have read this book beforehand.
The programme
The programme is supported by a comprehensive workbook with a compendium of art-based group exercises and is delivered through:
- Five live online half-day modules run on consecutive days,
- A 2 hour follow on online group supervision session two months after the modules, and
- Includes lots of time for practice
Practice, Practice Practice
One of the main aims of this programme is to give coaches lots of space to run art-based group coaching exercises. Running art-based exercises in groups take a lot longer than you may imagine and a lot longer than working 1:1. In the programme, each coach has 1.5 hours to run an art-based group session and is why we have 5 half day sessions.
This also means participants have lots of opportunities to experience the exercises as a group member; being able to understand the process of creativity and how it feels to be part of a group connecting to images and the time it takes to do this. Through this it will help you to shape your own group coaching programmes and sessions.
Group supervision
Around two months after the online programme you are invited to attend a two-hour group supervision session. Group supervision is a supportive online confidential space where you work together, led by your supervisor Anna Sheather, supporting each other, consolidating your learning and developing your art-based practice.
Materials
To get the best from this online programme it will be important for you to have to hand a range of materials that you can use, as well as be in a space that enables you to feel comfortable working creatively. A full list of materials together with guidance on how to set up a creative learning space will be sent to you as part of the joining pack for the programme.
CPD certificate
For full attendance, participants will receive an ART in Coaching CPD certificate for 20 hours.
A note about ICF CCEUs
I have been in touch with the UK chapter of the ICF and they have provided the following criteria with which courses accredited by other bodies can be submitted for CCEUs:
For coach education or training programs that have not been accredited by ICF:
- You must submit proof of completion in the form of a certificate or signed letter issued by the program indicating the name of the program, dates of attendance, and total hours completed.
- You must list the hours of content that are delivered synchronously and asynchronously. Note that 50% of all required instruction must be synchronous, allowing the opportunity for real-time interaction between instructors and students.
- You must provide a concise class outline or syllabus that summarizes the names of classes/modules and the time allowed for presentation.
- You must provide student materials. These materials may include a student or instructors’ manual, handouts, power points, or any other documentation that clearly illustrates the detailed curriculum.
Information provided 6th September 2024 from the UK ICF.
I can confirm that the programme certification and content enables you to meet all of these criteria for your ICF CCEUs submission.
