I am often asked about using art in group coaching and I am delighted to now offer this programme to answer the most frequent questions I get asked. The programme is very experiential and reflective, exploring art in group coaching and holding a safe, supportive and creative space for group members.

How do you use art in group coaching?

Can you use the ART in Coaching approach with groups?

What art-based exercises can you use in group coaching?

How do you run an art-based group coaching session?

How do you enable each person to connect to their image?

Art-based coaching works deeply, how do you hold that safely in a group space?

Who is the programme for?

This programme is aimed at coaches who are already using art in their coaching and want to explore using visual expressive language in group coaching. You will already have some understanding of coaching with groups.

You may have attended an ART in Coaching workshop or programme.

If you haven’t attended an ART in Coaching programme please note that this programme explores best practice when using art in group coaching using a person-centred approach and the framework and principles as outlined in my book Coaching Beyond Words – Using Art to Deepen and Enrich Our Conversations, Sheather 2019 published by Routledge. It will be important for you to have read this book before attending.

The programme touches on key aspects of group coaching but does so in the context of using art in a group coaching programme and/or session. There are many courses and books on Group Coaching and this programme is to add something new to your practice.

No experience of using art in coaching?

If you haven’t any experience of using art in coaching and are interested in learning more about the ART in Coaching approach you may be interested in the Art in Coaching, Art in Practice Programme. This is also run online and full details can be found here.

The Art in Coaching, Art in Practice programme is for coaches who would like to start to develop an art-based approach in their coaching practice, and is based on the ART in Coaching Framework and my book Coaching Beyond Words – Using Art to Deepen and Enrich Our Conversations, 2019.

The ART in Group Coaching Programme

The aim of the programme

The aim of this programme is to provide you with a greater understanding of, awareness of, and confidence in how to start introducing and using art in your group coaching practice.

The programme content

As well as offering lots of space to practice, the programme will cover:

    • Exploring group coaching and the benefits of running an art-based group coaching programme (or session)
    • Managing ourselves in the group coaching space and reflecting on why you want to use art in group coaching. This will shape your outcomes from the programme
    • Running an art-based group coaching programme including:
      • Contracting as a group to create and co-create a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space for art-based working
      • Exploring art-based exercises to support the group dynamics from getting to know you, through to ending well with examples provided
      • Choosing an art-based coaching exercise to support the group coaching theme (programme theme and session themes) with lots of example exercises in the supporting workbook
      • Engaging and connecting participants to the art they have made in the group, as well as group art they make as a group
    • Time to reflect on practice

Practice, Practice, Practice!

One of the main aims of this programme is to give coaches lots of space to run art-based group coaching exercises.  Running art-based exercises in groups take a lot longer than you may imagine and a lot longer than working 1:1. In the programme, each coach has 1.5 hours to run an art-based group session. This also means participants have lots of opportunities to experience the exercises as a group member; being able to understand the process of creativity and how it feels to be part of a group connecting to images and the time it takes to do this. Through this it will help you to shape your own group coaching programmes and sessions.

Programme format

To deliver this the programme consists of four live online half-day modules run on consecutive days, and a follow-up online 2 hour group supervision session post the programme.

Group supervision

Around two months after the online programme you are invited to attend a two-hour group supervision session. Group supervision is a supportive online confidential space where you work together, led by your supervisor Anna Sheather, supporting each other, consolidating your learning and developing your art-based practice.

Materials

To get the best from this online programme it will be important for you to have to hand a range of materials that you can use, as well as be in a space that enables you to feel comfortable working creatively. A full list of materials together with guidance on how to set up a creative learning space will be sent to you as part of the joining pack for the programme.

CPD

For full attendance, participants will receive an ART in Coaching CPD certificate for 16 hours.
